Specialist Services
A quick steam and brush can help refresh and smarten your well loved hat in moments.
Minor adjustments in shaping and/or sizing of your hat can be provided in-store. Our hat-jacks are used to gently enlarge a hat fitting which has become a little snug and our team can steam and hand-crease your hat to adjust it’s shaping.
This requires the existing liner and ribbon-work to be removed, the new liner is then sewn in and the ribbon-work is re-attached by hand. The hat will also receive a quick steam clean, brush and re-shaping to refresh it as part of this service.
To replace the sweatband, first the existing sweatband, liner and ribbon-work need to be removed. A replacement new sweatband is then installed and the hats original liner and ribbon-work are re-attached by hand. The hat will also receive a quick steam clean, brush and re-shaping to refresh it as part of this service.
Whether you would prefer a like-for-like replacement of your hats ribbon-work or would like to go for a different colour, width or style, our hatter will be happy to discuss all the options available with you. Once you have made your choice, your hats existing ribbon-work will be carefully removed and replaced with new.
Please note that customisations (including embossing changes/additions) are only offered on certain handcrafted products. Pre-crafted items or those from our ready-to-wear ranges will not normally allow for further alterations. However, should the client wish to discuss any possible changes to the standard specifications to our products as listed on the websites, these should be discussed directly with our workshop hatting team who can best advise you via email to enquiries-hj@herbert-johnson.co.uk . Please be aware that should your requested custom alteration be possible, a custom order would normally need to be quoted for and organised with us directly. Please note that there would be an additional customisation fee applicable for this non-standard change as this requires more work and processes to achieve by our team outside of our normal production schedule.
Following a full assessment of the hats felt and all components, a Full Reblock Service involves the hat to be carefully stripped of all its components, cleaned, blocked, re-trimmed and shaped as required. The price includes the re-attachment of the hats original components and is available as a package in conjunction with any other required replacement elements.
Size and fitting adjustments can be made to your hard-felt hat, such as bowlers Top Hats and Riding Hats, by using a conformateur to precisely measure the shape of the wearers head and make adjustments to the hat to match.
