Headfitting Service

The first step to acquiring the perfect hat is to know what size you require.  All brands vary in their sizings and an individuals head size can fluctuate over time and due to hairstyle changes, so it is always advisable to have your head fitting measured prior to placing an order to get the best possible fit.  Our London shop team are always available in store to measure you for one of our hats and assist you with creating your order.  Our headfitting service is also part of our Hatter Appointments.

All handcrafted Herbert Johnson hats purchasable in store are sized in 1cm increments.   On our website, some hats are available in specific sizes or 1cm increments but we also offer half sizes for most of our range.  As we offer a fully bespoke order service, if you order in store or by direct email to us, our hatter will handcraft your hat to your exact requirements which includes your headfitting available to the nearest half centimetre (available on the majority of our handcrafted hats).  Cushioning booster strips are also available to allow for further adjustment and comfort.

If you wish to place an order for a Herbert Johnson hat without visiting our store to have your headfitting professionally measured by our team, please follow our at home Head Measuring Guide instructions carefully.  When placing an order online, it is your responsibility to ensure you order your correct size.  See our Terms & Conditions for details.

For Herbert Johnson Traditional headwear including hard-felts such as toppers, bowlers and riding hats, having your head measurements taken professionally is a requirement.  Hard felts are by their nature, non malleable for the most part and thus are all handcrafted to order to each customers exact head size and individual shape.  Please read more about our Traditional range and how they are made to measure here.
